Pirate Attacks Data Visualization
This is an infographic about the geographical location and frequency of pirate attacks around the world in 2009. They larger the blood splatter, the more pirate attacks in the country. Each area with attacks is labeled and placed geographically around the AK-47.
The legend at the bottom reads:
You may be familiar with the recent popular film, Captain Phillips, in which a captain’s ship is seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia. While that was certainly the most famous pirate attack in 2009, it was not the only one. This graphic demonstrates, by relative scale in the number of attacks by country, the global pirate attacks on vessels around the world in that year.
